College grants for felons can be obtained through the federal financial aid programs which includes Pell grants.  If you have been convicted of a felony, and if you are interested in going to school, then be sure to complete your FASFA form so you can apply for not only the Pell grant but also community college grants.  If you plan to attend a community college, many of these schools have grants that can offer to you but you have to complete the FASFA form first to determine what other federal financial aid you may qualify for first.  Just like Pell grants for single moms and grants for musicians, many convicted felons can qualify for low income funding for school.    The key to finding these types of funds will come from first starting your education path at a community college and then working out from there by using financial aid that is focused on the community college programs.

Grants for felons can be found through a variety of local organizations. We have found that some of the most successful grant programs seem to come from local community colleges.


If you are looking for grants for felons to go to college, it is important to consider what the local community colleges offer. The first step, of course, is to complete the FASFA form online to determine what your financial need may be. The financial aid offices at the community college needs the SAR form, produced after you complete the FASFA, so they can determine what Pell Grants for felons you may qualify for. From that point, the financial aid office at the community college can then determine if there are state and school-based grants for you.


Community colleges, because of their grassroots effort in education, often have quite a bit of funding that help at-risk adults go to college so be sure to consider the community college when looking for grants for felons.  In addition to grants, these same community colleges also offer opportunities for student loans without cosigner.
